CONCERT

I'm not going to focus too much on the school day, because I'm giving a full acount of the fucking awesome concert I went to.

I saw the SPIN Magazine with me in it. I look like a 9-year old kid. Oh well.

Anyway, on to the concert!

Dan's mom picked me up at 6. I was wearing my Iron Maiden shirt and my green camouflage pants. After some time finding it, we finally reached the Trocadero. There was a line starting from the door (we got there at around 6:35, doors opened at 7) and we joined it. But we were soon informed that we had to join the second line which was behind a barricade about 20 feet away. Apparently one continous line would block the sidewalk or something. We got in that line and met up with Tim from Rock School and his friend. We talked about various shit. This guy came around and handed everybody free demo tapes for these two bands, I haven't listened to them yet but I will. Then finally around 7:05 we went in.

We all headed right for the merch. I wanted to get a Cannibal Corpse hoodie but they were 45 bucks. I got a shirt for 22, it's black with the red CC logo and on the back has this like, zombie clutching a heart and all the tour dates on a gray background. Dan and Mike got two others of the same shirt. We entered the concert area to see a Yamaha drumkit, one Marshall and one Crate half-stack, and a banner that had "INCANTATION" in white in this really cool logo.

FIRST BAND:

INCANTATION
GENRE: Death Metal

Vocalist/rhythm guitarist-Neck-length brown hair, brown goatee, slight gut, wore a gauntlet on his picking arm, played a B.C. Rich guitar.

Lead guitarist-Back-length black hair, short, caucasian, thin, looks almost exactly like Pauly Shore, also wore a gauntlet on right hand, played a B.C. Rich Mockingbird (black.)

Bassist-Back-length blonde hair that went right in front of his eyes. Kind of tall, stocky, played a red sunburst B.C. Rich Ironbird bass. 4-string.

Drummer-Bald, brown goatee, Couldn't really describe his features. Played Yamaha double-bass kit with six toms, and a full set of cymbals, but I couldn't tell you what kind because I couldn't see them.

RATING OUT OF 10: 7.5

A pretty decent death metal band. The song they opened with was seriously like ten minutes long. The crowd really didn't get into them that much. I headbanged a little, but their sound guy was pretty bad. But as the bands progressed, sound got better, so I figured this was just to help the headliners overshadow Incantation. They played 5 songs.

STAGE RAPS:

"ROO RAA ROOOOOOOO."

"RAAAAA ROOOO RAA."

"DA DAAA GOOO GRAAA."

BAND TWO: PISSING RAZORS

GENRE: Pantera (I'll explain in a second)

Vocalist-Big Phil Anselmo wannabe. Rather tall, around 6'3", wore a Lolla Palooza shirt, and I swear to god the same exact pair of dungaree shorts and wallet chain that Phil wore when I saw Pantera. Very cool guy, despite all this.

Guitarist-Short, dreadlocks, looked like a nü-metal guy but didn't play that. Very much resembled the DJ from Incubus. Played a black Gibson SG.

Bassist-A little taller than the guitarist but still short. Also has dreadlocks. Couldn't tell what kind of bass he was playing.

Drummer-Big Undertaker wannabe. Had bleache blonde-hair, wore a blue bandanna and had a brown goatee. Shirtless. Couldn't tell drums or cymbals (fucking custom bass drum logos.)

Rating out of 10: 9

I like Pantera. So, naturally, I liked Pissing Razors. They're pretty much a Pantera clone with some other influences.

STAGE RAPS: Very weak.

The vocalist said the same thing in between every-song! It was,

"Hey, we're Pissing Razors from El Paso, Texas. We got a new record out on Spitfire Records, called Where We Come From, make sure you go out and buy it."

Inbetween the sets of Pissing Razors and Dark Funeral, I saw the vocalist from Pissing Razors go back into the entrance area. So I followed him and got a Sharpie pen from Dan (why the hell he had one, I have no idea), and got him to sign my envelope. Here's our conversation:

Me: Dude, could you sign this for me?
JB: Sure I will. What's your name?
Sean: Sean.
JB: (autographs the envelope, spelling it "Shawn"). Here you go.
Sean: Uh, I really liked your uh, set.
JB: Thanks, dude. Was everything good and loud? Was the PA really loud?
Sean: Yeah.
JB: Awesome.

Then I walked away after he started talking to some other guy. Mike made fun of me for getting the autograph, but hey, I was happy.

BAND 3: DARK FUNERAL
GENRE: Black Metal

Vocalist-Fat guy, really long brown dreadlocks. Wore white corpsepaint with black shapes around his eyes. Wore a muscle shirt that depicted Jesus and said "WANTED". Had lots of tattoos. In this one song, kept screaming "SAAAAATAAAAN!.....LUCIFEEEER!....SATAAAAAAN!......LUUCIFEEER!"

Lead guitarist-Nasty. He wore this black studded leather vest thing that showed his stomach, except he has a really big gut. He was wearing shorts with a studded belt and his gut was all hanging over it, and he jiggled whenever he head-banged. Had shoulder-length black hair, white corsepaint with black designs around eyes. Played a Black B.C. Rich Warlock.

Rhythm guitarist-Tall, thin, long blonde hair. Hardly ever moved his head. Wore white corsepaint with black ovals around his eyes and black lipstick. Played a purplish-black B.C. Rich Flying V and a silver ESP LTD Flying V. Used his wrist while picking way too much.

Bassist-Short, thin, tatooed, long black hair, corpsepaint. Played a black B.C. Rich Ironbird 4-string.

Drummer-Don't remember but he used the same drumkit was Undertaker wannabe from Pissing Razors.

RATING OUT OF 10: 8.5

For Dark Funeral's set we moved onto the floor, near the right side of the stage. I could barely hear the guitars, but I could, and I liked it. I'm hesitant to give them a 9 because I coudn't hear that well. I would go buy their album.

FOURTH BAND: CANNIBAL CORPSE
GENRE: DEATH METAL

Vocalist-Tall, really long brown hair, Immolation t-shirt that said "YOU ARE JESUS, YOU ARE LORD, YOU ARE NOTHING TO ME" Looked like Janis Joplin!

Guitarist 1-Bald, looked like he belonged in 311. Average height. Played a Brian Moore cherry sunburst guitar, and a Squier Stagemaster 7-string that was silverish-blue. Used a Crate stack.

Guitarist 2-Long black hair, never saw his face I don't think. Played a black B.C. Rich Flying V. Used a Marshall stack.

Bassist-Very good bassist, all though I already knew that. Light brown hair, played a B.C. Rich Warlock 5-string bass. Played an Ampeg stack.

Drummer-Couldn't see him and had no logos on his drums, but I THINK the rackmount unit said "TAMA".

RATING OUT OF 10: 9.5

Awesome. WAY heavier live than in recordings. They just had this crushing guitar sound, this massive drum sound, and this percussive bass sound. They played "Hammered Smashed Face!" I sang along to all the songs I knew, and now I can barely speak. I don't even want to describe it, it was so awesome. Me and Dan went nuts on "Stripped, Raped, and Strangled" and I knocked Dan into this guy that was holding his girlfriend. He got bitchy with us. I'm thinking, "This is cannibal corpse's fucking signature song, everybody is going nuts, what are you fucking ballroom dancing?" They also played "Skull Full of Maggots" which is another one of my favorite songs. Oh yeah and two songs "The Spinesplitter" and "Compelled to Lacerate" were also really good.

Afterwards, I saw Guitarist 1 from Cannibal Corpse standing outside and got him to sign the other side of my envelope. He just drew a head with a bloody knife going thruogh it. awesome.
